Sending money through M-Pesa has always required users to navigate through the SIM Toolkit or those who have the app could easily use it. The more options users have, the better it is as you are free to choose whichever one works for you.
To ensure users have extra options, especially the non-smartphone users, Safaricom has added another way for customers to access M-Pesa services. Customers will be able to access M-Pesa services via the USSD code *334#.
Through the USSD code, users will have access to all M-Pesa services in one menu that is easy to use. Safaricom says that this option offers users more flexibility than what they get with the current SIM toolkit menu.
Through the new USSD Menu, users will find it easier to send money to the correct recipient as the name of the receiver will be displayed before the sender can advance to confirm the transaction. This means that the chances of sending money to the wrong person will be reduced.
“We have embarked on a strategy to simplify our range of products and services for our customers and to provide them with an even better experience. M-PESA on *334# is our first solution as part of the ongoing strategy and it refines how our customers interact with the service. Customers now have the opportunity to truly confirm the details of a transaction before it can progress making reversals a thing of the past,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom.
To use the service, customers will dial *334# upon which they will be presented with a choice of the different M-PESA services including “Send Money”, “Loans and Savings” or “Lipa Na M-PESA”. As with other USSD menus, customers will key in the number selecting the service such as “5” for Lipa Na M-PESA.
